The number of visitors to Naumburg Cathedral continued to rise in 2022

Intotal 119.701 people visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Naumburg Cathedral in 2022. "We are on a very good path in terms of the development of visitor numbers," said the director of the United Cathedral Foundations, Dr. Holger Kunde, looking back on the past year. "The Marienretabel, which stood in the west choir for just under five months, generated very great interest. But the 9 Euro ticket also brought us many visitors from central Germany," Dr. Kunde continued. "We are constantly working in the visitor service department to make the service for the guest on site first-class, and in the marketing and public relations department new visitors are being addressed with exciting campaigns."

In 2023, the focus will continue to be on offering guests an unforgettable stay in Naumburg Cathedral, and new special and expert tours have been designed for this purpose. The new conference rooms are also very well received, this sector is to be further expanded.

In addition, this year the Baumaßnahem around the cathedral continues to be driven forward. At the annex building of the cathedral administration, Domplatz 20, repair work has been in full swing since August 2021. In the Bishop's Curia at Domplatz 1, planning is progressing for the future World Heritage Information Center which is scheduled for completion in 2025. The project, which is worth more than ten million euros, is being financed primarily by funds from Investitionsbank Sachsen-Anhalt and the Burgenlandkreis district. The Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung and the Sparkasse Burgenlandkreis, the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the Friede Springer Foundation are supporting the museum staging in the Bishop's Curia, which will offer a varied exhibition on the Naumburg Cathedral and Naumburg Masters World Heritage Site and the cultural landscape along the Saale and Unstrut rivers. The groundbreaking ceremony for the World Heritage Information Center will take place on March 10, 2023.

Cultural highlights in the Naumburg Cathedral are this year:

30 years of the Romanesque Road and the Romanesque Opening Day on May 20, 2023 with special tours and other highlights. Naumburg Cathedral is the most visited destination on the Romanesque Road and will celebrate this anniversary in a fitting manner.

In addition, another special anniversary awaits visitors: on June 4, 2023 is the German World Heritage Day, there the Naumburg celebrates its 5th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a colorful program.
